Promote

What better time than now to engage in service? We have the opportunity to teach the next generation about the importance of using your talents for good and to create real change in our country.

As we learned from Spiderman: with great power comes great responsibility.

Take your first (or second!) step to being a pro bono junkie – be a book promoter! C'mon. It's easy. We'll show you how. Be part of the movement!!

Here are a dozen ways you can help:

  1. Send a note out about the book to your parents or community listserve with a link to this web site.
  2. Toss your book club a curve ball and suggest that you make it the book for the month (it will ensure everyone actually reads the book this month). Then find out what the people in your book club actually *do* and see how this can translate into skills-based pro bono work.
  3. Send an email to your local alumni association chapter telling them about the book and the pro bono service movement.
  4. Tell your favorite local children's stores that they should sell it and direct them to our web site.
  5. Buy the book as a party favor for the guests at your kid's birthday party, MLK day celebrations, preschool graduation or upershernish.
  6. Give a copy of the book to your local public library or the library at the elementary schools near you.
  7. Know anyone who works in the media? Blackmail them into covering it.
  8. Member of a trade association or professional group? Contact the local chair and ask them to promote the book to their members via their web site, newsletters and events.
  9. Work with your kids to create homemade flyers promoting the book and then put them up in local cafes and community centers. Be sure the poster says that your kids "do it pro bono."
  10. Hype the book to your social network on Facebook, My Space and LinkedIn. Twitter and Yammer it up. Post a video on YouTube of you reading it to your kids. Blog, blog, blog.
  11. Suggest to your manager and/or corporate foundation that they give the book as a gift to employees to encourage service and reinforce that your company is a great place to work for parents.
  12. Think of another creative way to promote the book and test it out. Let us know if it works so we can share it with other pro bono promoters.
